Become a Golfer
Starting off the game is a wonderful step in anyone’s life. Golf truly
is a fantastic sport. Sometimes fun, sometimes exasperating, but always
entertaining and incredibly addictive. And to start is not as difficult
as it may seem. Obviously when you want to become a golfer, you need
something to hit the balls with. But a great problem with many beginners
is that they run out and immediately buy a set of clubs. This is a
problem because, well for a start they may not suit you and then you’ll
have to sell them or change your entire game. Even worse you could
seriously damage them embarrassing yourself at the driving range. To
start as a golfer, rather borrow or buy a half set. Or you can even rent
from some driving ranges. All Pro Shops have clubs and many even sell
second hand clubs. Or pull round to the driving range and speak to the
people there. You’ll find a lot of them actually have a spare set of
clubs at home that they bought too quickly when they first got started.
Do make sure you try them out before you buy them though. Also keep your
eye open at second hand sales and even check out hospices and the
Salvation Army. The only thing is that when you buy a brand new set that
is your own, you become a little more proud of your game. Some weird
psychological thing. If that’s the case you can get some great clone
clubs that aren’t the branded ones and hence cost a whole lot less. But
seriously, have an understanding of the game and your game in
particular before you commit to buying an expensive set of clubs.
It will happen when you want to become a golfer, that you will
desperately want to hit a full 18 holes before you are ready. It’s a
difficult game and incredibly frustrating if you haven’t some sort of
mastery over where the ball goes. It’s also just a waste of time
searching for the ball out in the fields all the time. And you might feel
quite rushed by the people queuing up behind you, perhaps even knocking
a ball onto the fairway while you are still in the bush. Rather start
on the range getting a good grasp of how to drive. Take a few lessons
and then get on to maybe play at a pitch and putt or just nine holes.
You will really have a lot more fun this way and the players around
you will be endlessly thankful for it too.
Oh and there will be almost without exception every other player who
has just become a golfer trying to teach you what you’re doing wrong
and what you need to do to change your handicap. The best thing is to
get tips from the greats and get someone who really knows their game to
ask advice and check your game. It will cost you money to get a Pro so
you could even learn all you need on paper and screen. You need to be
very disciplined then. There are some really good golfing tip books,
DVD’s and CD’s on the market that will give you some great hints on
how to stand, what to do with your grip and the best swing and posture
to get your game on. Just keep your eyes peeled cause these can be
picked up anywhere. Just beware there are some dodgy ones out there.
But most of them cover off the fundamentals, Posture, Grip and Stance.
Watch as much of the Pro’s as you can. See how they do it and pick up
on their mistakes. They are pretty quick so you could even record the
games and then watch the swing back in slow motion. This will really
help you see the intricacies of their game. So stick to those and then
enjoy your progress.
