The importance of the Golf Driving Range
The swing is perhaps the most important part of the game of golf.
There are many things that can go wrong and the perfected swing is often
times the difference between a professional golfer and an amateur golfer.
That’s why good golf players spend a lot of time practicing golf at the
driving range.
When playing a putt or a chip, you’re ideally playing it without much
movement of the body. But most of the other shots played on the golf
course make use of the full swing. The full swing is a difficult move to
grasp and requires a lot of practice. It’s an unnatural and very complex
movement. Most golfers begin by spending a lot of time practicing the
basics of the swing on a driving range before ever even approaching a
golf course. It is also very difficult to learn the correct swing
without the help of a tutor. A professional golfer who can help show
you the way, so that you do not learn the wrong swing and develop a bad
technique that is difficult to untrain at a later stage. Even
professional golfers still use the services of an instructor because
they need someone to watch them and tell them what they are doing wrong
or how they can better it from an objective point of view. Thankfully,
instructors are often found at the driving range. The other thing about
the swing is that there is a very mental component to hitting a ball.
That’s what makes it more difficult. The more time you spend at the
driving range however, the more used to your swing you will become and
the easier and more natural it is to do. Because golfers play against
the course and in effect themselves, they never have anyone else to
blame for a bad shot. It is just the golfer and a stationery object.
That means that a golfer can stand and stare and think as long as
they like, but ultimately it’s no one else’s fault if it isn’t a
great shot. This psychological pressure often builds in the player
and creates a nervous effect that breaks concentration. The comforting
thing is that this pressure exists at all levels of play and even
the best golfers succumb to it. The more experience you have though,
the better you know how to handle this pressure.
There are several possible reasons the ball has been mis-hit. The wrong
alignment of the club, incorrect direction of swing and hits off the mark
of the ball where the head moves as it makes contact with the ball. Most
problems come with the use of longer clubs because you don’t have as
much control as you do with the shorter clubs. Of course the ball also
moves further and hence any form of deviation will be drastically
affected.
So get to your nearest Driving Range and hit a few balls to get the
hang of it. Hitting golf balls is also great for the release of tension
(unless of course you keep messing up your shots). There are driving
ranges at almost every golf course in the country. There are even a few
in those highly urbanized areas for people to step out of their rushed
world for a quick drives. Most of the courses are run as businesses
but you should pay around 40 rand a bucket, depending how many balls
are in the bucket. (Normally somewhere in the region of 30 – 70 balls)
And if the range doesn’t have a professional tutor there you can ask
about a contact number at the Driving Range. You will quickly find
an instructor to help you. The great thing the golf driving range
is that most of them generally also have a putting and chipping
green to practice on. So you can get a full golf workout in one
place, without having to run after the ball all the time.
