Fancourt Golf Course and Hotel
The Garden Route is one of South Africa’s most scenic and beautiful regions,
with a landscape that will take your breath away. Right in this Eden is the world
famous Fancourt Golf Course Country Club Estate and Hotel. The calm and serenity
of this area will leave your soul at rest as you play your round of golf on
South Africa’s top ranked golf courses. But there is a lot more to the golfing
experience than just your game. The Fancourt Golf Course has a lot more to
offer than just world class golfing.
Worldwide, the Garden Route is known for its incredible natural splendour.
Making its way along the Indian Ocean next to the huge mountain ranges, the
Garden Route boasts the Tsitsikamma forest (South Africa’s largest remaining
indigenous forest) amongst small lakes. This forest houses some of the rarest,
most beautiful fauna and flora and a plethora of bird species. Another added
bonus is that it is a malaria free area. And if water is your thing you’re in
luck because the resort and surrounding lakes and beaches offer many
opportunities to get soaked. Whether it’s sailing, boating, fishing, skiing,
surfing or just swimming at the beaches, everything is around a 20 minutes drive
from the Fancourt Golf Courses. The surroundings of Fancourt Golf Course are
called the Outeniqua. The means "land of honey" and comes from the Koi who
called it this because of the flourishing fertile area with its incredible
environment. Another great activity to try out is the Outeniqua Choo Tjoe.
It’s an old steam train that makes its way along the scenic stretch between
George and Knysna. Once in Knysna, you should also try out the Ferry that
takes you out to see one of the most dangerous boating points in the world:
the Knysna Heads. Then savour your trip back along the dazzling white beaches,
dense indigenous forests and sheer cliffs along the Outeniqua Mountains.
The accommodation at Fancourt Golf Estate is set to give guests a touch of
the quaint old days with the latest in luxury living in their 100 bedrooms.
Add to this the culinary treats provided in their five restaurants, from the
healthy and light meals picked up at the Morning Glory, to the food from locals
at the Bramble Lodge, not to forget the Italian dining experience at La
Cantina’s or the fresh seafood at Le Pecheur, and definitely highlighting the
fine exquisite cuisine at the Montagu Restaurant.
Of course the main attraction is the Fancourt Golf Courses. With four world
class golf courses that range from Parkland to Links you get such a wide range
of the game that you will not forget these courses for a long time to come. The
two original Gary Player designed golf courses are the Outeniqua and the
Montagu. These two Parkland golf courses are consistently rated amongst South
Africa’s top ten courses. They put you in magnificent surroundings and give you
a great and rewarding challenge. The other golf course available is the Links.
True to the original courses of the birth of golf, many players say that it
feels just like playing in Scotland. This course is yet another Gary Player
design and opened in November 2000 and hosted The President’s Cup in 2003. The
fourth course on the estate is Bramble Hill and is a great mixture of Parkland
and Links. This golf course is open to the public for every type of player on
every level can enjoy the game in the heart of the Garden Route. There is even
a warm up area available and an undercover driving range to ensure a bit of
practice in most types of weather. This is part of the Golf Academy that
offers professional lessons in lecture rooms and on the course. So whatever
your desire you have to come and try out these golf courses with some of the
most incredible scenery you will ever experience.
