King David golf course

The King David golf course which is situated just 15 minutes outside of Cape Town has a scenic background of Table mountain and Devil's Peak. This course is one of Cape Town's best kept secrets which is known for staying firm during the wet winter months and for being sheltered from the strong south-easterly wind which makes it perfect as a “course for all seasons”. The King David golf course which was designed by the late Bob Grimsdell, one of South Africa's leading golf course architects,is rated amongst the best designed golf courses in South Africa.

Over the past couple of years the King David golf course has undergone a renaissance which has resulted in the club hosting numerous golfing events including the annual Tour Seniors PGA Championship as well as numerous top class amateur events such as the Sa Maccabi Nationals, the Nomad Nationals and the SA University Championship to name but a few.

Playing the course

The King David golf course has an extensive layout which is separated by massive Bluegum trees overhanging both sides of the fairway. The natural splendor of the course is augmented with palms, pines and aloes along with its many doglegs, rolling fairways, well bunkered greens and four water hazards. Both the fairways as well as the greens of the King David golf course are well maintained throughout the year.

The King David golf course is well laid out and makes good use of the available natural terrain. New flower beds have been planted along the course to give the course a splash of color. Few bunkers generally protect the greens of the King David golf course but with several of the plateau greens it is necessary to carefully select the club as well as practice a fair amount of accuracy otherwise many a lofty shot is required to return to the intended target.

At many off the holes on the King David golf course, especially the par-four 6th you'll find yourself driving straight at the Table Mountain cable way. Another memorable hole can be said to be the 12th, it is rated as one of the finest par-threes in the country. Her you will play into a well raised green falling away on either side and surrounded by bunkers is tricky especially in strong winds. The King David golf course has recently made noticeable changes to the course which is evident on the par-five 14th. In the past a dogleg right meant that missing the narrow fairway would result in landing in rough sandy lies. However these days due to the improvements the off fairway experience will be of lush semi-rough allowing for a good recovery shot.

Course facilities

The clubhouse at the King David golf course has recently been upgraded and refurbished which has resulted in a completely modernized club and created a wonderful entertainment area for golfers to relax in after a round of golf. The revival of the course and clubhouse has meant that the club has seen many visitors flocking to the King David golf course to enjoy the modern facilities which are available at affordable rates. The upgrade of the clubhouse mainly focused on ensuring that the locker room, bar and catering facilities were of the highest standards.

The King David golf course is a championship course that has grown in status and with the breathtaking views of Table Mountain and Devil's Peak you will have a memorable round of golf in this scenic environment.
