Mossel Bay Golf Course
There is a golf course that is situated on a peninsula that juts out into the ocean offering golfers a sea view from every angle. Half an hour outside the town of George is the Mossel Bay Golf Course which is an 18 hole golf course that is famed for the Indian ocean view that it offers from every tee. The Outeniqua Mountains form the perfect backdrop to this scenic course. The Mossel Bay Golf Course is also situated close to the Diaz museum – the Portuguese sailor that was the first European to land in Mossel Bay.
Playing the course
This course is a par 72 course and is a links course which has recently been remodeled and upgraded. Although the climate is Mediterranean there are prevailing SE winds in the summer an NW winds in the winter. The Mossel Bay Golf Course is not only an exceptional golf design but incorporates a golf estate as well as a nature reserve. The course is 5880 meters which is no particularly long, it is described as being user friendly with no hazards. However a golfer should not be fooled as there are 94 pot bunkers and the undulating greens are fast. When the wind picks up golfers can expect a fair challenge.
The signature hole on the Mossel Bay Golf Course can be particularly problematic. The par-five 17th which plays towards the Indian Ocean this 493 meter long hole doglegs right before it approaches a raised green that is surrounded by bunkers. The par-four third is another hole that where a golfer can struggle with club selection. The course is maintained in an invariably good condition with the grass being green almost all year round. The course s an easy walk and is playable from the tees to the greens for al golfers.
