Royal Cape golf course

The Royal Cape golf course is the first golf course in South Africa and established in 1885. This course was formed after the introduction of golf to South Africa and a suitable course was needed to play on. The Royal Cape golf course is situated in South Africa and is a historical keystone of golfing in South Africa. This golf course is situated in the southern suburbs of Cape Town and is a mere 15 minutes from the city center and Cape Town International Airport.

The Royal Cape golf course is the oldest and most exclusive club in South Africa that received the attribute of “Royal” in 1910 by the Duke of Connaught who represented King George V at the opening of the first parliament of the South African Union. The Royal Cape golf course is a true championship course having hosted the South African Open no less than ten times and the South African Amateur Championships eight times. Playing the course

The Royal Cape golf course is a test of golf especially when the south-easter is blowing. Essentially the course is a flat parkland course that is well maintained and a pleasure to play. A round of golf at the Royal Cape golf course will be a memorable as well as enjoyable experience as the course boasts inspiring scenery of the Table mountain range. In 2000 extensive work was done on the Royal Cape golf course to bring it up to United States Golf Association standards and today the course is a fine test of golf and worthy of its championship rating. The fairways on the course are narrow and tree lined that requires accuracy off the tees.

Wayward shots are penalized by trees and the greens are well bunkered. There is also a fair amount of water features along the Royal Cape golf course, particularly at the corner of the 3rd, 4th and 5th holes as well as the 14th, 15th and 16th holes. The most difficult holes on the Royal Cape golf course are the par 4 third, at an amazing 435 meters the longest two-shotter on the course and the par 4 14th which plays into the teeth of the prevailing south-easter with water guarding the right of th green.

Appropriate golf attire is required for the Royal Cape golf course and is reserved for members on Saturdays, as well as closed on Good Friday and Christmas. Handicap certificates are compulsory to enjoy the Royal Cape golf course as well as soft spikes.
