The Selborne Golf Course

The Selborne Golf Course is sometimes referred to as the most spectacular 18 holes in southern Africa. The site of the Selborne Golf Course was originally used as a dairy farm by Dennis Barker who purchased Selborne park to run his pedigree Jersey cattle herd. However after visiting Canada and USA in 1985 Denis Barker decided to build a golf course on the property. Initially Denis approached a golf course designer to design the proposed golf course, however in th end he designed and constructed the golf course himself. In 1987 Selborne Golf Course was the first golf estate in South Africa and after three operational years the course was voted 7th best in the country. It can be said that the Selborne Golf Course and estate was a catalyst for the golf estate industry as there is now over 30 resorts throughout South Africa.

The Selborne Golf Course achieves a good balance with the mixture of short and long shots. The par-five third on the Selborne Golf Course is considered to be the signature hole as the fairway winds through a downhill avenue where it is well protected by trees and thick bush. The green is well protected by water on three sides as well as a bunker.
