The Zimbali Golf Course
The Zimbali Golf Course offers golfers irresistible ocean and forest views, exceptional scenic water and wetland features in a magnificent natural setting. This course has developed a reputation for a memorable course with charisma and charm. South African and British Champion Tom Weiskopf international golf course designer was given the brief of “conservation takes precedence” given the task for planning the Zimbali Golf Course. The mission was to create a “cart only” course on a property with dramatic elevation changes, varying ecosystems and substantial residential sections.
The Zimbali Golf Course is a par 72 Championship course that is both challenging and beautiful which offers world class standards for top players and higher handicap players alike. The Zimbali Golf Course is a new golf course situated on KwaZulu Natal's Dolphin coast approximately 42 kilometers away from Durban city center. The course features magnificent vistas of the Indian Ocean from the 14th through to the 18th and the character of the property is one that has an abundance of natural features.
Playing the Zimbali Golf Course
The Zimbali Golf Course is a varied course as it starts off with a coastal links feel where after the course dramatically turns through rolling wetlands and ends up in coastal forest terrain. Most of the tees are high on the side of hills or sand dunes and the fairways cut through the valleys and the greens are seemingly always at the bottom of the next hill. For this reason judging distance is a time consuming task especially for those who are playing at the Zimbali Golf Course for the first time.
Some of the holes on the Zimbali Golf Course are amongst what was once cane fields with few trees and a distinct “links” feel while others holes are situated in more dense indigenous forests and wetlands. Since its establishment in November 1998 the Zimbali Golf Course has matured appropriately; gradual adjustments have been made to improve user-friendliness. Tom Wieskopf, the mastermind behind this KwaZulu Natal master piece, has created a course that provides a challenge to all golfers no matter the skills level or handicap. Here you will be able to enjoy the fair challenge of golf in a delightful and beautiful setting.
Facilities at Zimbali Golf Course
The entrance of the clubhouse is dominated with the ruins of an old farm house framed by an aging wild fig tree. This serves as a token of the lengths that Tom Weiskopf and the developers went to ensure that conservation and preservation is the key in the development of the Zimbali Golf Course as well as the estate. The clubhouse was designed in an African classical theme; making much use of hand crated décor. The use of raised platforms in and around the clubhouse provides the discerning golfer with magnificent views of both the Zimbali Golf Course and the ocean.
